Dear All,

Welcome to the December Newsletter. 56 members and guests attended the November tasting at Restaurante Los Amigos in Javea.

Tasting team members Andrew and Kathy Johnson hosted this tasting. Andrew explained that the wines had been chosen with Christmas festivities in mind and in line with the advice of José Peñin, when he presented to the Society several years ago.

He explained the importance of Spain in global wine production and said that the wines reflect the diversity of the great grape varieties of Spain.

Andrew and Kathy have been members of CBWS for over 20 years and have been great contributors, supporting many of the activities, as well as Andrew taking on the role of President. They are relocating to the UK to pursue Andrew’s lecturing interests on cruise ships, as well as being nearer to their family. They will return to visit us in the future and we wish them good luck in the next chapter of their lives. The President presented them with a wine from Ribera del Duero in recognition of their contribution over the years.

Next tasting The President’s Selection December 7 at Restaurante A Bordo Club Nautica Javea

Welcome drink will be served at 7.30 pm

This tasting is always earlier in the month of December due to Christmas travel etc.

Dress will be Black Tie or suits for the men and the usual elegant attire for the ladies. There will be no wine scoring during this evening and there will be free seating. 

So please make every effort to attend. As December 6 and 8 are national fiestas, and in order to get exclusivity in the A Bordo Restaurante in Club Nautica Javea, we need to ensure that we achieve a good attendance. For this reason, although this is traditionally a members only event, we will offer places for guests who have the definite intention to become members next year. 

The menu is as follows:

Starters 

Tomate con atun y vinegreta de pimientos
Tarta de salmon
Crema de calabaza
Mejillones al vapor

Main Course – please choose between fish or meat

Dorada sobre alga wakame y salsa de bogavante
            OR
Codillo confitado con salsa al oporto

Guarnación centro de mesa:

Verduras salteados 

Patatas fritas 

 Dessert

Tarta de queso con helado de frutos rojos

Price:  €40 per person

Bookings are now open on our online booking system.  Please click on the link here or below.

This will then take you to a page from where you can make your booking and record your food choices. Once you have completed the booking you will see a confirmation page requesting you to make your payment. In addition you will also receive an email with confirmation of your booking and payment instructions. This is now the only way you can reserve places. 

Please note that bookings, as always, will close at 12.00 noon on the Friday before the event which is Friday December 1.  After that time the booking system will not accept further bookings.  If you experience any issues please contact Shirley Sloggie at bookings@cbws.eu

AGM – January 18th, 2024

The AGM will be held on the above date at Restaurante La Senia, Hotel Nou Roma, Denia, followed by a tasting hosted by the President.  This is a very important meeting and will review our activities in 2023 and plans for 2024 as well as the election of Officers and Committee members.  Please make a special note to attend if possible.  The Agenda will be sent out later in December.

Finally, for your forward planning for 2024, you will see on the website under Events & Booking, details of the planned CBWS meetings and Wine Trips for 2024.
