Tasting and AGM January 2024

CBWS tasting with AGM held on Thursday 18th January at La Senia in Denia and attended by 46 members and guests

New President Neville welcomed members and guests to the evening and in particular to three new members.

The format for the evening was to taste the favourite wines from 2023. The wines took us on a good tour of Spain.

Ceremonia monastrell blanc de noir 202, Vicent Gandia, Alicante €3.95

This wine was tasted in November at Los Amigos

Monastrell is known for fabulous rich red wines of alicante/valencia this is a white from red grapes

Delightful white, pale yellow, hints of green, aromas of tropical fruits, apricots, apple and pear, full mouth, pleasant aftertaste.

Pair with light seafood tapas or sun lounger by side of pool!

Lowest scoring of tonight’s wines, but one of cheapest wines of year €3.95 from Blasco Teulada – 78.1 points. Favourite? our members bought out Blasco!

Cosme Palacio blanc crianza 2017 €9.90

100% viura (macabeo) from Rioja  aged in oak barrels for 8 months. We tasted this wine in June at Puerto Blanco in Calpe 

Straw yellow, clean and bright nose, intense and expressive, floral aromas and mineral notes, well structured, medium acidity.

Pair with most fish dishes, chicken, cheese

Capraisa Bobal 2021 from Utiel Requena , Bodega Vegafalo €16.50

From Jesus Pobre riurau tasting in September

Aged partly in amphora and partly in oak barrels. Bobal grape is our secret and is only grown in the Valencia region

Dark cherry colour intense aroma of ripe black fruits, meaty, medium bodied, full palate, fresh, tasty, fruity, persistent aftertaste

Pair with lamb, game, strong cheese

Clunia Malbec 2019 from Castillo y Leon €20.22

From February tasting at Javea Golf Club

Excellent quality, aged 5 months in oak barrels

Deep cherry red with deep purple hues, intense aromas of black and red fruit, blackberries, blueberries, minerals, spices, pepper, toast, coffee.

Pair with steak or dark chocolate dessert

Scored 88 points available from Blasco Teulada €20.22 (This is a deeply discounted price)

From November tasting at Los Amigos in Javea

Christmas pudding in a glass, 9 years maturing in the solara system

Rich, lush,sweey, fruity, ebony colour, dried fruits, honey, toasted a dessert in itself

Pair with christmas pud, sweet dessert, dark chocolate mousse, sticky toffee pudding
