    Trip Report October 2024

And now what actually happened: This year’s Autumn Wine Trip took us to the neighbouring DO’s of Jumilla and Yecla in the Region of Murcia, famous for their fruity and full bodied Monastrell wines.  Our first visit on this trip was to Almazara Deortega, a family run olive oil mill producing ecological oils from different varieties of olives grown on their estate. We were welcomed by the enthusiastic staff who talked us through their organic approach to olive oil production. They use the cold press method following harvesting of the olives grown around the estate.  We were then guided through a tasting of the oils with local bread to compare the…

    Newsletter October 2024

Dear members I hope that you all had a great summer. Those of us in the Costa Blanca are enjoying the more moderate temperatures, the less busy restaurants and dodging the rain showers whilst comforting ourselves with the phrase ‘we need the rain really’. At our first Tasting after the summer we were very lucky to avoid the downpour at this outdoor event at Montesanco. 56 members and guests enjoyed a different type of event at this new and exciting project at the heart of our region in Teulada. The tour around the vineyard, the outdoor seating next to the beautifully restored winery and the excellent wines created a great…

    Tasting Report September 2024

TASTING REPORT SEPTEMBER 2024 – MONTESANCO TEULADA Our latest tasting was held on 19 September at the superb setting of Montesanco winery in Teulada, hosted by Neville and Sara Richardson. As part of our plan to vary the locations and types of events to which our members and guests are invited, this was a very different tasting. An excellent selection of Montesanco wines both from their Teulada vineyard and  their Requena vineyards was presented by Maria, the owner. Originally numbers for this event were restricted to 50, however as it was very quickly oversubscribed, Maria was gently persuaded to accept 56 of us. The event was al fresco and rather than…

It won’t be long now before the temperatures and humidity start to fall and, dare I say it, we have peace and quiet and our homes back when our family/relatives/ friends return…

    Newsletter June 2024

Dear members The May Tasting dinner attended by 46 members, including 3 new members and 8 guests, represented all change for Costa Blanca Wine Society; new presenters, new Bodega and new venue. Fergus and Joan Fitzpatrick who are new members of our Tasting Team hosted the event at Real Club Nautico Denia, a really impressive new venue which we are likely to go back to in future years. The wines tasted (described in more detail {here}) demonstrated the flexibility of the Monastrell grape, including a crisp delicate rosado, two full flavoured, fruit-forward reds, through to…
